Frances C. Gage letter, 1896 October 6.

The letter is from Frances C. Gage in Marsovan, Turkey to Mrs. John Bell, St. Paul Park, Minnesota, on behalf of the Ladies Aid Society of the Atlantic Congregational Church in the Dayton's Bluff area of St. Paul, where she had been a member. The society was supporting her work as a missionary in Turkey. She expresses thanks for a box containing flannel nightgowns and an apron; relates how washing is done; gives information on the missionary school for girls where she is teaching; and discusses her work with the Mothers Club, her involvement with the placing of children in the city Protestant school, and her arrangements to help two widows.

Frances C. Gage was born in Maine, the daughter of George M. and Elizabeth Gage. Her father was an educator who was in charge of the state normal school in Mankato from 1868 to 1872, following which he was superintendent of the St. Paul city schools for two years.
